‘Out of My Head’

Grenache   |   McLaren Vale - Australia

About

‘Out of My Head’ is named after one of Amber and Taras’ favorite songs by a 90s Adelaide punk band called ‘The Exploding White Mice.’ This very small production in 2023 replaces the beloved ‘Fugazi’ Grenache for this vintage, as summer hail devastated the Fugazi vineyard. Thankfully, Amber was able to secure fruit planted in the mid 1970s by the Wait family just a few hundred meters up the hill from the Fugazi block in Blewitt Springs. The label is a picture of their old fermenter in the winery that Taras decided to spray paint late one night many years ago…

The fruit was hand harvested and brought back to the cellar for spontaneous fermentation in picking bins with half of the fruit intact as whole-clusters and half lightly crushed. After 10 days, the wine was pressed off the skins and was sent to seasoned French barriques for six months of aging. The wine was bottled with just a small dosage of sulfur. No fining or filtering.

Tasting Notes

This Grenache from Blewitt Springs is a serious and assertive take on the variety, reminiscent of the nervy essence found in Fugazi but with slightly more meat on its bones. It’s got a great blend of red and black fruits, creating a wine with gravitas and edge. The added richness on its bones imparts a substantial, satisfying depth.
