‘Mountain Tops’

Pinot Noir   |   Adelaide Hills - Australia

About

As its name suggests, ‘Mountain Tops’ is made from grapes sourced at a high altitude Piccadilly vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. This wine is also an ode to the most nourishing, comforting, nurturing of all topographic formations… Louis could only hope to make wine that brings the same joy to people that pink mountain tops, a most inspiring muse, always manage to do…  On the label is the radio towers of Mount Lofty, South Australia’s highest peak on the back slope of which this vineyard lies. The 2024 vintage was a classic, excellent year for Adelaide Hills Pinot, with the only challenge being a small heatwave in mid-March. To combat loss of acid, they picked about 90% of the fruit in the day or two before the heat. This vintage marks the first Mountain Tops with any significant amount (21%) of new oak influence.

The wine is made with three clones – Clones MV6, D5V12, 114 & 115, on Southern, Eastern, and Western aspects – from a few different picks. The wine fermented spontaneously with varying percentages of whole bunch and time on skins, some carbonic. Overall, it saw 10-14 days of skin contact. It aged in mostly old oak for 10 months, with 21% new oak this vintage. After aging, it was bottled with just a coarse filtration and a dash of sulfur. No fining.

This wine shows light and pretty characters of rose petals and classic Adelaide hills strawberry with a cradling of oak and an herbal charm. The lifted, enduring finish is marked by good natural acidity and an ethereal perfume.
