‘King of the Beach’ is a reference to the nudist beach a small distance from the sandy soils of the Sand Road Vineyard in McLaren Vale from which this fruit was sourced. Winemaker Louis Schofield set out to make a fun wine that was easy-drinking and delicious, like something you’d want to sip on the beach in your birthday suit. It is plush with cherry juice and herbal qualities, and yes, you might even call it fleshy 😉
This wine is 100% Nero d’Avola. It was harvested at about 11.5% potential alcohol and with enough acidity to keep it bright. Fermentation was carried out whole cluster with light maceration, and from there the wine was aged for 9 months in neutral oak. Bottling followed with just a touch of sulfur, but without filtering or fining.
