‘Mr. Black’s Concoction’

Shiraz   |   Barossa Valley - Australia

About

Mr. Black’s Concoction is a hearty Shiraz made in a classic Barossa Valley style. The fruit is grown on Roennfeldt Rd, Marananga on the Small Gully Wines Estate. The red clay soils and the rolling landscape of the Western ridge offer an exceptional depth and richness to the Shiraz grown here. In 2019, these vineyards had the lowest yielding – but possibly the highest quality – vintage of the past decade. The lack of rainfall meant vines did not experienced any disease pressure. The lower yields have resulted in Barossa Shiraz with great color, intense flavors and firm tannin structure.

The Shiraz was fermented in 5-ton stainless steel vessels and pumped over twice a day for 5 days. The skins were then pressed with some residual sugar remaining allowing the final fizz of the ferment to occur in seasoned oak. The barrels were racked back to tank for blending, and then the wine was bottled with a coarse filtration and dosage of sulfur. No fining.

Tasting Notes

Deep and plush with layers of dark berries, plum and spice. The palate is full and generous, framed by ripe tannins that give structure to the rich, fruit-driven finish.
