‘Sunday Slippers’

Chardonnay   |   McLaren Vale - Australia

About

‘Sunday Slippers’ is a fresh, barrel-aged Chardonnay from McLaren Vale, made by the wonderful Elena Brooks. The 2023 vintage saw fruit from Pridmore on a vineyard grown on black cracking clay. It is a true expression of Chardonnay grown in McLaren Vale in all its fruitful glory – and is a vast contrast to the richer and blousy style of Barossa Chardonnay.

The fruit has hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed primarily to stainless steel. Once primary fermentation was complete, the wine was racked to 85% used, 15% new French oak barrels for 6 months of aging on the fine lees. Battonage was employed occasionally for added texture. After six months, the barrels were blended to tank then bottled with a gentle fining, filtration, and  addition of sulfur.

Tasting Note

Pale white-gold in color, this wine shows refined aromas of green apple skin, white peach, and nectarine with subtle oatmeal and lanolin notes. The palate is clean and linear, shaped by precise acidity and a light touch of French oak, carrying through to a long, composed finish.
