‘Yard Dog’

Red Wine   |   South Australia - Australia

About

Yard Dog. The old faithful friend and beloved household pet the whole family adores, occasionally superseded as the last one bites the dust (or the last drop is drunk). It is the quintessential companion, whatever the weather, the mood or the occasion. It is said that a dog will reflect the character of its owner and a wine will reflect the character of its maker. 2019 marked a label change with a new dog being featured proudly. Meet Sunny Sanders, youngest daughter of Vine Street Imports’ founder Ronnie Sanders. Sunny, like her father, are determined, carefree, and very fun loving. These qualities are certainly seen in this delicious red blend.

Three lots of Shiraz were pulled together from McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Plains. They were fermented separately and then blended as a varietal Shiraz. The winemaker was looking for a bit more heft and acidity and a bit of Touriga Naçional from the Vale was blended in. The result is really a ton of value for an everyday red wine.

Tasting Note

Dark garnet. The Shiraz really explodes on the nose with a floral perfume and spice and juicy red and black fruits. The palate is medium-bodied and quite charming. Slight herbal notes enter the fray with the fruit turning more blackberry and with blueberry notes, but with red licorice and grainy, fine tannins. The Touriga certainly shows itself producing really great depth of flavor and structure.
