Trizanne Barnard from Trizanne Signature Wines is a force of nature. She’s an avid surfer, rock climber, and acclaimed South African winemaker. In her earlier years, she worked as the assistant winemaker for Klein Constantia, and then she helped launch their sister brand, Anwilka, as the head winemaker. In this episode, you’ll hear how praise from Robert Parker during her first vintage making wine for Anwilka was actually the worst thing that could have happened to her. You’ll hear what happened next with the launching of her own brand, Trizanne Signature Wines, and how she has come to be known for her yin-yang portfolio, featuring the cool climate of Elim and the warm climate of the Swartland. For those who geek out on soils, Trizanne explains in this episode the difference between Elim and Swartland soils and how they influence tannin structure. And of course, you’ll hear all about her encounters with raggies and great whites while surfing! Hosted by Charlotte Alsaadi.
