Misfit Wine Co.

‘Cycle Buff Beauty’

Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon   |   South Australia - Australia

About

Misfit Wine Co. was founded in 2006 by a group of non-conforming, brazen, intellectual wine professionals seeking to stir up the conversation of Australian wine. The misfits represent an ever-evolving wine culture rejecting convention, and seeking wines that are loud, raw and a lot of fun. Like many relationships and friendships, things change over the years. That college sweetheart? Not even friends on Facebook. Other relationships come back full circle though and sometimes a friend from the past resurfaces…exes anyone? The latest iteration of Misfits Wine Co. and Cycle Buff Beauty is all of that put into one 750mL bottle of pleasure. The ‘misfits’ have grown up a bit with their kids uploading videos to Tic Toc, running out of square footage to tattoo, and all-in-all just getting a bit older. That said, there is still that kid inside of all three that wants to play; work hard and play hard is the mantra.

2019 marks the first vintage of this wine that Malbec doesn’t enter the fray. Malbec has become the unicorn’s unicorn as of late and tracking it down is like landing a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle on release. The label has seen a minor update as the ladies have fended off their would-be-stalkers to show they are brave, strong, independent and still quite feisty. Cabernet Sauvignon (Bouchet) is the supporting actress to Sereen (Shiraz) for the 2019 vintage. Sereen and Boushay are two charming femme fatales who continue to outwit and outlast whatever comes their way. The freedom that the motorcycle represents is reflected in the independent selection of whatever grapes make sense for the given vintage. This duo has overcome all stereotypes and ultimately has the last, and best, laugh. The grapes were harvested and destemmed/lightly crushed. The juice spent two weeks on the skins with frequent pumpovers and when the wine went dry it was basket pressed to French barriques. After 12 months the wine was racked and bottled.

Tasting Note

Deep ruby. Intense but fresh dark fruits and a touch of thyme on the nose, with perfumed violets and a touch of star anise qualities adding complexity. It is gently packed in a compact manner with energetic black cherry and blackberry notes with a kiss of cassis and a dash of black pepper. It doesn’t carry any excess fat and is quite muscular but trim.
