Bobar is owned, grown and made by Sally and Tom Belford, who met at their university in the late 1990’s while studying viticulture. The first vintage of Bobar was made in 2010 after a decade of talking, dreaming and scheming. The vineyards are secreted into the hills to the west and the north of their hometown of Yarra Glen, on the western side of the Yarra Valley in the best microclimates this unique area offers, allowing the Bobar wines to reflect the richness of the valley floor with great poise and finesse. The wines are made simply but with precision, intent and craft. Careful consideration is given to the environmental impact of each step from vineyard to the bottle. Farming is at local vineyards to reduce freight and travel to and from the vines, reducing and eliminating pesticides. There is also no heating or cooling of the wines at any stage, no additives to the wines, and the packaging materials are made with minimal environmental footprint.
